How We Became SJR
SJR has had a long journey to success with decades of experience on and off the field. We have loved the beautiful game for a long time and our passion for it has not waned for a second. We strive each year to bring players new and old, of any colour gender and creed. Here is the story of what we have achieved since we became SJR:
· 2002 Name Change: The club moved to St Joseph’s Catholic Club, becoming St Joseph’s FC. Kevin Stafford introduced fundraising to allow players to play for free, laying a solid financial foundation.
· Early Success: The club’s first Sunday League Cup win came in 2003, followed by its first League title in 2004.
· Dominance: St Joseph’s never finished outside the top 3 in Worksop, winning trophies in 2006, 2010, and a perfect league season with a cup win in 2012.
· New Era: In 2016, Andrew Guest took over as manager, bringing in young players, new coaching staff, and sponsorships. A Benevolent Cup victory ended a four-year trophy drought.

· Historic Wins: The club secured a double in 2018, including an unbeaten league title, and another two cups in 2019, defeating rivals Worksop Boro.
· Semi-Pro Transition: In 2019, the club moved to Saturday Semi-Professional football in the Central Midlands League, aiming to represent Worksop at a higher level with local players.
· Unbeaten Again: SJR won Division 1 North in its first semi-pro season (2020), remaining unbeaten for the third time in the club’s history.
· People’s Club: During the pandemic, SJR inherited a women’s team and junior section, ensuring affordable football for the community.
· Women’s Team Success: In 2024, the Ladies’ team won the East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League, earning promotion to step 5 of the football pyramid.
· Community Growth: SJR now boasts 40 junior teams, 5 senior teams, and a thriving Saturday Morning Soccer School with over 100 attendees aged 18 months and up.
